Running Lines & Heavy Hits: Round 2 Delivers

Round 2 delivered one of those classic days that reminds you exactly why we do this.

From the moment we hit Newcastle beach, the conditions were all-time. Clean offshore winds groomed the lineup to peaky perfection, with quick, fast-running waves reeling down the bank. Sets were hollow, with some waves packing a solid, heavy punch—keeping everyone on their toes and rewarding those willing to commit.

It wasn’t just good—it was proper.

Across the divisions, the level of surfing stepped up. The groms charged hard, threading sections and taking on waves well beyond their years. The juniors kept the pace high, linking critical sections with confidence, while the opens pushed into the heavier sets, showing power and control in somewhat tricky conditions. Even the grandmasters got their share of runners, proving that style and experience never fade.

But as always, it wasn’t just about the waves.

The beach vibes were just as strong. The weather turned it on—clear skies, warm sun, and that perfect offshore breeze holding on for most of the day. The BBQ was firing non-stop, pumping out an impressive 90 eggs and 100 sausages, keeping everyone fuelled from early starts through to the finals.

And then came lunch—Giuls’ famous pulled pork rolls—which absolutely lived up to the hype. Safe to say no one went hungry.

From super groms to grandmasters, everyone shared in the stoke. That’s what sets this club apart—the mix of generations, the support in the water, and the laughs on the mic. Whether you were competing, judging, cooking, filming or just cheering from the tent, you were part of something special.

Round 2 was a reminder: great waves are one thing—but it’s the people that make the day.

We’ll see you all at the next one. 🤙
