Round 5 – Big Swell, Big Rips + a BBQ Sell-Out!
Round 5 turned up the volume with a big swell and some seriously powerful rips, making for a challenging day in the water. It was one of those conditions where you needed more than just good waves—you needed a plan. Strategy played a huge part in this round, with riders having to read the ocean, manage the sweeps and pick their opportunities carefully. Those who got their positioning and wave selection right were rewarded.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Newcastle crew got stuck in and made the most of it. There were plenty of solid waves, big moves and some serious battles across the divisions. It was another great reminder that bodyboarding isn't just about throwing yourself over the ledge—sometimes it's about knowing when to paddle, where to sit and when to pick the right wave.
Meanwhile, the beach crew were running their own competition—and the BBQ was absolutely firing!
The Mexican beef rolls, B&E rolls and Haz's famous brownies were a massive hit. Word quickly spread through the Newy community, and before long the public were rolling in to grab some of the goods.
What started as a BBQ for the club turned into a full-blown operation, with hungry locals getting amongst it and helping us achieve a complete sell-out! Every roll, every B&E and every brownie found a home.
A massive thank you to everyone who helped cook, serve, prep and keep the BBQ rolling throughout the day. The support from the Newcastle community was unreal, and seeing people come down specifically to grab some food was a pretty awesome reflection of the connection our club has built.
Round 5 delivered the goods—big swell, serious rips, smart strategy, great food and plenty of Newy spirit.
Another round in the books and another day of what Newcastle Bodyboarding Club does best: surf hard, look after each other and have a bloody good time doing it. 🤙
